August Efforts

Forgive the pun. Well, today’s Community Sunday gathering just went to show – when the going gets tough, the tough get going!

Anyone for a little light weeding?
Witness the benefits of Community Payback schemes
They also serve, who sit and stare
Just call me the Chain_Gang Boss: it’s dirty work, but somebody’s got to do it.
Coffee and Cake: for what we are about to receive, may we be spared food poisoning.
It’s time to go for Ron’s Rock Cakes again while nobody’s watching.

Apologies to all who were not photographed today and to all whom the captions offend. We had approaching 20 participants and got a fantastic amount of work done. Huge thanks to all who managed along – but next month we can squeeze in a few more for sure. We look forward to seeing you then.

Gwen’s Garden Request

Benji from Gwen’s Garden have asked for our help.

“Can I ask for help with the project we have in the field next to you called Gwen’s Garden. We’re a small grassroots group helping promote bio diversity in the area. And are asking for some help with donations of any spare flowers or plants preferably perennials but all is welcome.”

We’d like to work in partnership with the allotments to really promote diversity back into the area. I’ve attached are tree planting plan for winter 2020, and a link to our Facebook page and our page on its your neighbourhood site. If you can spread the word around the allotments it would be truly appreciated.

This is an excellent project and I am sure many plotters will want to help. You can reach Benji by email at: benespindola@googlemail.com.

Fruity Research Opportunity

Dr Nigel Hoggard from the University of Aberdeen has been in touch asking if we could help him recruit volunteers to take part in his Fruit Bar Study. This research project investigates the effect of fruit bars on sugar levels in blood. Further details are available on the study’s website.

Community Sunday Success

Huge thanks go to everyone who helped make today’s Community Sunday (perhaps) the very best ever. Too many to name, but thanks to all. Lots done and great fun.

Apologies to the many who missed out on a photo – The photographer was being worked way too hard.

It’s TAMS time again

Collections for The Allotment Market Stall (TAMS) start this Thursday.

TAMS is a wonderful project that sells our surplus produce to the public and so spreads the benefits of allotment working into the wider community while at the same time making a contribution back to our GFAA funds.

Please leave any (saleable) donations you can make into the special trays by the Bothy by noon, Thursdays.

Remembering Sandy Inkster

As I’m sure everyone has now heard Sandy Inkster, plot 89, sadly passed away on 25th of June. Sandy was a great supporter of Garthdee Field Allotments Association and brought us national recognition with his appearances on The Beechgrove Garden when they visited his plot through the course of last season. He was always very generous with his advice, fantastic produce and his ongoing help to others in keeping their plots in tip top condition. He was a general fund of knowledge!!
Many people have suggested that we organise a collection so that we can buy a bench in Sandy’s memory. If you would like to donate to this fund, please pass on any monies or cheques (made out to G.F.A.A.) to a committee member, or you can make your donation by direct money transfer to GFAA’s bank account. (Please see Michael Hart’s recent email for our bank details, or contact any member of the committee.)

Thank you all for your support, and I’m sure we will all look forward to enjoying a seat on Sandy’s bench remembering a much-loved fellow plotter and friend. Phil and Susan, Plot 35.
