TAMS 2021 Dividend

GFAA is a longterm supporter of The Allotment Market Stall (TAMS) and it was a delight to hear that last season we earned our largest ever dividend from the sales of our surpluses.

Thanks go to all the plotters, volunteers and friends of GFAA who helped generate the £495.71 for our funds – and of course to the TAMS’ Team for all their efforts in the community or our behalf.

Harlaw Planters

Over recent weeks our Volunteer Squad have been building a set of planters for Harlaw Academy’s Parent Council. The planters will be used in an outdoor social area constructed for pupil use. It was a pleasure to drop off the planters this week and meet Mr McLaren (Headteacher).

Thanks go to Catriona Allan, Chair of the Parent Council for facilitating the build so well and of course to the many members of the Volunteer Squad who helped find and deconstruct the pallet materials, and build and paint the planters.

Thanks also go to the NHS Grampian Health Improvement Fund as the build would not have been possible without access to the refurbed Bothy and tools.

Say hello to Ruth

Ruth is a First Year student of General Agriculture with SRUC out at Craibstone. Today was her first visit to Garthdee Field, but she will be a frequent visitor in future we hope, coming to help Gill (Plot 64) on her allotment.

I am sure we all want to welcome Ruth to GFAA and hope that she enjoys her time with us.

Garden for your health’s sake

Val (Plot 23) has been back in touch to suggest this edition of the Gardeners’ World Podcast.

Michael Moseley reviews the evidence of the health benefits of gardening

Description

Can we boost our immune systems and wellbeing through gardening? We hear from TV medic Michael Mosley how gardeners can benefit their health every time we’re in the garden.

Orchard Brae Raised Bed

We could not have hoped for a better day to work on the new raised bed we have built for Orchard Brae School’s Nursery.

Don’t worry, we did finally sort out our alternating layers and corners and got them into the right order!  The bed is three meters long by one meter wide and almost half a meter high and build with timbers kindly donated by Robertson Construction.

Our thanks go to Roddy Mckinnon for all his help and organisation on the day.

New Activity

GFAA is now working with The Stronger Families Inside Out Group to offer growing activities as part of their Club 10 Programme.  Further details are available via the Collaborations Link above or here.

If you would like to help please contact Stuart in the first instance.
