I am delighted to report that following our IYN assessment last month GFAA has achieved an Outstanding level assessment. Gill and Norman attended the Keep Scotland Beautiful Awards Ceremony in October to receive our certificate.

Sincere thanks go to all plotters for keeping their own plots in excellent order this year, to the growing band of Community Sunday participants, our volunteers, collaborators and partners and to all those individuals who helped around the communal areas of the site and so contributed to this superb result.

Soggy Sunday

Today’s Community Sunday was perhaps the wettest on record, but the team stuck valiantly to their tasks of raking leaves from the orchard and filling some of the new potholes before retiring to the Bothy for well deserved coffee and cake.

Thanks to Alex and Stuart for doing the honours with the photos and to Marion for sharing her excellent birthday cake!

There is no December date set, but we are expecting to take delivery of 2000 bulbs from the Council, so do watch out for an announcement about their allocation for planting.

Woman’s Land Army Restored

Today’s Community Sunday top task was to move several tons of old wood chips to make room for incoming leaves from the Council. Big job, so who you gonna’ call? Well, the New Woman’s Land Army of course.

Now, we are not saying that a few burly blokes would not have come in handy, but as they were obviously away getting some beers in before the Scotland-Australia Match, the girls did just great.

Er, thanks go to Alison for the ‘loan’ of the barra’.

We finished just in time to head for the bothy and some excellent Kale Pesto flan, and Apple Cake (Gill and Jacqui promise the recipes soon).

Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder that Community Sunday is on 18th October. Meet at the bothy around 11am. Usual range of tasks:-

Pothole filling.

Tidying the woodchip and leaves bins at both the top and bottom of the site.

Paper/rubbish chase around the site – poly rubbish bags in steel container- see Gill or Norman for access.

Picking and sharing the orchard harvest – very nice fruit on the crab-apple tree.

The bonfire area will be at the top car-park – same area as last year so if you have rasp canes, prunings scrap wood etc you can deposit them at the top of the site near to the woodchip bins. Please don’t dump non combustible rubbish at the bonfire site. The bonfire is likely to be in early spring which should give time for everyone to have tidied their plot!

The Primary School plot can always do with some input – manure and leaf mould could be dug in. Don’t overdo it – a little digging by many people will get the job done over time. I suggest that we dig from one end and work backwards row by row so that we know what has been dug.

If you think of other things that need doing – just do it. It all helps.

————and if you haven’t enjoyed yourself with all that, there’s always the coffee and cake at the end!
