Yet more links…

With the weather favouring the ducks today when I had free time and hoped to get on with my delayed winter digging I have resorted to surfing some of my favourite allotment and gardening sites and adding them to our Links page above.  A wee reminder – if you have sites you would like to pass on, please let me know and I’ll be pleased to add them.

Community Sunday in March

The first Community Sunday for 2015 is scheduled for March 15 and we plan a communal bonfire on that day – if the weather gods permit.  Other activities may include helping with a general Spring Clean of the site and preparation of the intended plot for youngsters to use.

If you have materials on your plot suitable for burning on the bonfire please bring them along on the day or drop them off at the top of the site in the open area next to the Deeside Line.  Please do not leave materials unsuitable for a bonfire.

Kickoff with be at 11.00am as usual and there will be coffee and cake at the Bothy for all volunteers at the end – say at 12.30.

Frozen Fields

I popped over the site today thinking I might catch up on some of my winter digging, but no way – we have a winter wonderland over to the west end of the site.

If this keeps up we will have to replace gardening with skating for a few weeks!

A Cleaner, Greener Scotland?

Lorna Graham from Aberdeen city Council has just passed on the latest edition of the Clean Up Scotland – see the link below.

This item caught my eye:

REGISTER YOUR SPRING CLEAN UP

During the months of April and May, we are encouraging people to register a Spring Clean Up, enabling everyone to unite together in a common cause to keep their part of Scotland beautiful. A total of £10 billion a year is spent picking up litter across Europe, with the bill in Scotland amounting to more than a million a week.

Register a Clean Up of your local area with friends and family, work colleagues or your community group at www.keepscotlandbeautiful.org/register

If you would like further information about our Clean Up Scotland campaign email info@cleanupscotland.com or call 01786 471333

I wondered if any plotters would like to join a group to tidy our site and its boundaries as a welcome to Spring?  Get in touch is you fancy it.

Farewell Mhairi

MhairiWe learned this week that Mhairi from the RGU Student Plot and Community Garden Project will be leaving soon to take up a new post. While we are delighted Mhairi is moving on in her career, we will all be very sorry to see her go. The energy she brought to the plot and project was exceptional and her contributions to our general meetings were always well-considered and helpful. We will miss her enthusiasm, bright ideas and wide knowledge of community involvement and funding opportunities.I am sure we will all want to wish her happy landings in her new post and every success in her new roles and responsibilities. Hopefully she will manage to pop back from time to time to see how the RGU projects are getting on.
