Storm Damage

Thanks go to Val (Plot 23) for suggesting this post and providing the photos.

I was just thinking it might be timely to alert all allotmenteers to the potential power of the wind at this time of year and ask them to check their structures are secured and anchored.

It was certainly a shame to see so much damage done around our site after the recent gales – fences down, greenhouse glass blown out, compost bins scattered and poly tunnels uprooted.

Time to batten down the hatches! Thanks also go to Stewart (Plot 59) for taking the time on Sunday morning to replace and secure many vulnerable items and structures against the worst of the winds.

Gordon at Work

Wallet Lost

Gordon B from our Volunteer Squad lost his wallet while working on site yesterday. Please look out for it around the site and let us know if it turns up. Thanks.

UPDATE: Pleased to say Gordon is now reunited with his wallet.

Keep Scotland Beautiful Newsletter

It was good to see a reference to our recent Green Flag award in the current edition. Plotters, volunteers and friends of GFAA can check it out in the web edition via this link.

Move on over Pickfords

The Sunday Volunteer Squad and helpers demonstrate just how professional we are. No sheds were damaged (much) in the making of this video.

Sandy Inkster

Thanks go to Val (Plot 23) for suggesting this post and providing the text and photos.

On a beautiful day in late June, the family of the late Sandy Inkster gathered at Garthdee Community Allotment site to see the bench that has been placed there to commemorate his very long-standing association with the site. Sandy is very missed by those at Garthdee allotments who benefitted from his vast knowledge about plants and his insights and experience gained from a lifetime of growing in Scotland and abroad which he was happy to share with us all. We all knew where to go if we had a problem or a puzzle about what we were growing. Sandy always had the answer and was always encouraging about our efforts.

Sandy’s family: Jo his wife, his three daughters and sons in law, his grandchildren and great grandchildren, wish to thank the many people who contributed to this tribute to a much loved and respected gardener.
