Left shivering…

This poor little fella was disturbed and left shivering yesterday after being disturbed from his winter-lair when a new compost bin was being built.  We did our best to find him new accommodation, but I fear he faced a long cold night.

Can anyone say whether he is a frog or a toad, or indeed a prince?

Quatermass and the Pit

We are conducting an urgent review of our Health and Safety procedures after a near disaster for one of our volunteer squad on a plot yesterday.

We had hoped and intended to bury the blooming ejit who asked us to take on this job, but poor Gordon nearly paid the ultimate price.  Luckily, knowing his importance to the squad, the rest of the lads rushed to his aid – just in time.

Remember, you can’t be too careful out there and you never know when a trip or a slip may come your way.

Mindful Plotting Research

Thanks go to Michael and Marion Malcolm for sharing this contact and proposing this post.  I have just completed the survey and found it entertaining and thought-provoking.

Greetings,

My name is Tereza Martinovska and I am in my final year of Honours Psychology at the University of Glasgow. I am currently collecting responses for my final year project under the supervision of Dr Maxine Swingler.

In my project I investigate the relationship between community gardening, mindfulness, nature connectedness and well-being. The data is collected confidentially and anonymously via an online survey and the project has been approved by the University of Glasgow Ethics Committee. Do you think some of your gardeners would be willing to help me out with this piece of research? I am looking to reach community gardeners specifically and I would be very grateful if you could help me distribute the link to the survey.

Would you mind passing the link on? I don’t know whether people are most responsive through a mailing list or on FB but the link can be shared anywhere.

It is mentioned in the Information form but maybe worth mentioning again that the responses are anonymous and that it would be amazing to have complete questionnaires but people are absolutely fine to skip questions that might make them feel uncomfortable. The survey should take abut 25-35 minutes to complete.

If you know of any other groups or individuals who might be interested, please do not hesitate to either send them the link, or if they want to know more information, pass them on to me.

I am hoping that my research will be able to contribute to a better understanding of the role of community gardening in people’s lives, and potentially inform policies supporting development and maintenance of community gardens.

Thank you very much for reading through this lengthy message. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me via FB or on university email: 2146784M@student.gla.ac.uk

I wish you all the best!

Tereza Martinovska

Volunteers Ahoy!

It takes more than a smattering of frost and near Baltic conditions to deter our current volunteers. Thanks to Anne, Gordon and Mike for their efforts today and for making it a barrow load of fun.

Sweet Pea for Remembrance

Dobies have a rather special offer on a present.

It would be very nice to see splashes of these around the site.  Don’t forget, plotters can save 40% when they use our unique GFAA Discount number when ordering.  Pick up your catalogue copy from the Octagon.  Details below.

Well, am I the only one that got a, ‘could do better’ report?  Who’s willing to post a score?
