We had a great visit from the Primary 3/4 kids from Kaimhill Primary today.

As always the kids enjoyed their tattle planting, veggie transplanting and flower seed sowing.

Thanks go to all of the GFAA team who turned out to help.

The annual Spring bonfire was completed safely and successfully yesterday.

The figures:
Total fire-feeding hours – 7.5 (09.30 – 17.00)
Number of helpers – 10
Step count per helper – 15,000+ (as actually recorded!)
Carloads of inappropriate waste removed – 2 (why?)
The tonnage of stuff burned – 100+ (well, that’s how it felt anyway!).

Big, big thanks go to those who turned out to help and to Hazel (Plot 66B) for the fantastic lunchtime sausage rolls and cupcakes.
The ash will be cool enough to move in a few days. Please help yourselves to some – excellent for your fruit bushes, strawberries etc.
With the weather forecast as wild as it was, it wasn’t surprising that today’s squad was a wee bit smaller than usual. Luckily, they more than made up for reduced numbers with added enthusiasm.

Thanks to all who managed along.
Ellie House, a reporter from the Press and Journal was on site today.

Ellie is researching a feature on Community Gardening and Growing which she is writing for the paper’s Saturday’s Magazine. She was especially interested in GFAA’s volunteers and how they help us maintain and develop our site.

Sonya on Plot 97b suggested this post. Thanks Sonya.
Aberdeen City Council is organising a series of lunchtime talks in Marischal College as part of Climate Week North East. Further details are available on their website.
We had a wonderful turnout for our Community Sunday activities today. In fact, with well over twenty plotters and volunteers there, this was our biggest ever February Community Sunday. What a start to the year!

With so many willing hands available we got a wonderful amount of work done around the site – weeding, pruning, bonfire prep, pothole filling, litter collection and much, much more. A huge thank you goes to all who found the time to come along and to all who contributed to a magnificent coffee and cake spread.
