With regret we have to cancel our Community Sundays while current circumstances continue and until further notice. Here is a wee reminder of what we will all be missing.

Plotters will be aware of the Council’s new advice on bonfires on allotments. They have a strict set of procedures which must be followed. These are set out as ACC Regulations accessible via the Advice Tab on this site. Please consult these and follow the rules carefully.
I heard today of another allotment site where a plotter had not followed the advice and as a result had caused considerable nuisance to local homeowners. This resulted in a number of complaints. As you know, the Council has issued a warning that if they start to receive complaints about bonfires they will issue a total ban on all fires on pl0ts and allotment sites.
We can’t say we have not been warned. Please pay due attention.
I want to say a big thank you to all the plotters who turned out to help with the bonfire today. Thanks to the big turnout we were able to make a huge clearance of rubbish in record time.

A big thank you to all concerned.
COMMUNITY SUNDAY
Just a reminder that this Sunday 15th March is the third Sunday in the month and that means it’s Community Sunday at the allotment site. Hopefully as many as possible will be able to come along and help for just an hour or so with various community activities around the site. Meet around 11am. As usual we will stop for coffee and cake at 12.30.
BONFIRE
We plan to have our annual bonfire on Thursday 19th March starting at 10am. If you are free please come along to help feed the bonfire with the vast quantity of plot waste to be burned.
This is your last chance this season to get rid of any scrap wood or raspberry canes, tree prunings etc. – no carpets or plastics.

Plotters may have noticed that the P&J ran a feature about the increased demand for city allotments and Aberdeen City Council’s new strategy to promote food growing in the city.

It was pleasing to see this further commitment by the Council to allotment and green spaces. GFAA works in partnership with Aberdeen City Council and is a keen supporter of the strategy. We were delighted that Garthdee Field featured in the article.
An extended version of the article is available online.
At the recent The Allotment Market Stall (TAMS) AGM, dividends were presented to all those allotment sites who contributed surplus fruit and vegetables to the TAMS stalls over the summer.
Our dividend was £210.75 which has been paid directly to the Association. We contributed 322kg of produce. The produce is in great demand among the public and it’s good to see any surplus being put to good use.
The amount of produce contributed to TAMS this past year was well down on 2018 when we received just short of £400 for 850kg contributed which reflects the poorer growing season this year.
TAMS of course is run by volunteers and they have asked if any of the allotment sites could help out especially on a Thursday afternoon but at other times too on the stalls for example. If anyone thinks they might be able to help out please contact any of our Committee.
A big thank-you to all who contributed this past season and we look forward to supporting TAMS next year.
