Friday 22nd July was a special day at Garthdee Field when we hosted a visit from Katie Reekie of the Aberdeen Family Wellbeing Service and two families from her group along with support from Lucy at Community Food Initiative North East (CFINE).
Katie has started a new role as a Project Worker with Children 1st which is the working name of the Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children (RSPCC). and is developing a community gardening project based in Balgownie.

The project will support children and families to grow their own fruit and vegetables as well as providing opportunities to engage in creative activities to make the garden a welcoming space for everyone.
Accompanied by Anne and Jordi from our Volunteer Group, the families explored our site tasting some summer fruits, visiting the wildlife pond and the polytunnel. At the end of the site tour soft drinks and snacks were supplied by Katie and the young children had a good run-about on the grass playing “Tig” with any willing adults! (There was no escape!)
With paper and coloured pens the children drew pictures of their visit while Katie held a short focus group noting the thoughts and views of the parents.
It really was a good fun session.
