Trees and Bees Survey

The, It’s your Neighbourhood programme, had trees, bees and butterflies as a special focus this year and this prompted us to take a look at the trees and bees found on site.  We decided to conduct a little informal research and thanks goes to all who contributed ideas and information.

Our first report of interim findings is attached via the link below.  All comments, additions or corrections will be gratefully received.

The Great Garthdee Biodiversity Challenge

We hoped Miss Rennie’s Primary 4/5 Class would rise to the biodiversity treasure hunt challenge and find it fun: and of course they did not disappoint.

Getting to the big message, but where are the boys?

Ah, there they are…

So what’s the big message?

Did we have fun? We sure did!

Community Sunday September 2016

Welcome to the last of the summer’s Community Sundays on 18 September (before the BBQ the following weekend).
In addition to some regular maintenance work (e.g. pothole filling, site tidying, light pruning in the orchard), would anyone with stones which are not required kindly bag these and lay them at your plot boundary? We have a need to extend the bed of stones to enable lorries to deliver leaves/chips/etc to the bottom bins.
Some of you will have noticed that there will be restrictions to traffic on Garthdee Road on Sunday morning, but we believe that you will be able to access the allotment area during this time.
We look forward to seeing as many of you who can make it, for team work, and coffee & cakes from 1230.
Happy plotting!

Meet Gordon our Latest Volunteer

Gordon picked a pretty hot day for his first visit onsite as a Volunteer Member of GFAA, but that did not stop him putting in a full shift for us.

Gordon is a keen gardener at home in Portlethen and had six years experience of volunteering with a gardening project near Gourdon, which unfortunately closed down recently. Gordon will be helping us with general site maintenance on Tuesdays from now on.

Man at work!

Thanks to Vinny and Anne for passing on this excellent shot of a hard-at-work Stuart.

Any guesses as to what he is about to plant?
