BBQ + Date for your Diaries

GFAA Outdoor Classroom/Wheelchair-Accessible Toilet Opening and Late Summer Barbecue

Saturday 9th September 2016

from 12.00 pm

Plotters and our volunteers, along with their families and friends, are invited to our Opening Event and Late Summer Barbecue at the community orchard area of the Garthdee Field Allotments Site.

The opening ceremony with drinks will take place from 12.00-12.30 with the BBQ to follow immediately.

Please bring your preferred BBQ food and drink.

Entertainment will include a French Boules Competition, a Children’s Treasure Hunt, Live Music and (back by popular demand) Vinnie’s Trailer Tours.

There will be a Raffle with proceeds going to GFAA and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Donations for the raffle will be gratefully received by

Gill Earle (Plot 64), Stuart Oram (Plot 8) or Norman Coutts (Plot 81)

Please send any queries or offers of help on the day to Gill Earle – g.earl20@btinternet.com / 07951021319.  Offers to loan BBQs, gazebos, chairs or picnic tables would be especially helpful.

TAMS Success

Our first TAMS collection for the new season got off to a super start today with a haul of rhubarb, blackcurrants, gooseberries, beans, swedes and kale set out for pick up.

Thanks to all who contributed and volunteered surplus stuff.  Remember TAMS collect every Thursday at 15.00 and net profits come back to GFAA to help fund our site maintenance activities.

Community Sunday 16 July

Stuart

This coming Sunday – 16 July – is Community Sunday.  We are hoping for a good turnout of plotters as it is one of the last before our annual, It’s Your Neighbourhood Assessment Visit.  We want to get the site into good shape.

We will follow the usual format, starting at 11.00 and stopping for coffee and cake at 12.30 or so.  However, as a wee experiment we are planning to hold a General Meeting at the same time.  The purpose of the General Meeting is to gather plotters’ views on priorities and issues of current concern and for the future.

We hope this will be a convenient arrangement for plotters and will help improve communication within the Association.  I look forward to seeing you you on the day.

Late Summer BBQ

It was great to see so many at our BBQ at the weekend – and especially so many kids.  Thanks to Gill for all her hard work organising things and to Michael and Marion for the treasure hunt and Vinny for the trailer tours – always a success!!  In fact, thanks to all those who came along and helped make it such a success.

If you missed out this time – here’s a date for your diaries:  Our Late Summer BBQ is planned for Sunday 3 September.  Why not pop it in your diary now?

CFINE Aberdeen Urgent Appeal

CFINE urgently need long lasting foods- as per the attached poster.  Our friends at Inchgarth Community Centre have asked us to help with this appeal.

You already know that Inchgarth supports and hosts the TLC foodbank, which does an outstanding job for the people of Garthdee and South Aberdeen as a whole, where many of you have been most kind and dropped items off.
I am hoping to tap into your generosity once more for this appeal that shows together, Garthdee organisations, representatives, people and those from city wide services that work with us- truly do care and that we have made a joint impact. After all, isn’t this one of the core reasons we all work together and meet, to meet such challenges head on.
I know you are all really busy, but if you get moment, please do share on all of your social media pages, amongst your colleagues, or nip to Asda or Sainsbury’s in Garthdee, or any other shop, and buy a couple tins of soup, pasta, beans, or any of the items on the list and drop them off at Inchgarth.
Thanks so much for your time and efforts on this matter.
