Octagon Opening and BBQ Photos

Yesterday’s Opening Event for our Outdoor Classroom and new community facilities went exceptionally well – we even managed to dodge all the threatened showers!

Thanks go especially to Rita Callander from Greenspace Scotland who came along to open the Octagon in her role as Community Enabler for Tesco Bags of Help, to Kevin Anderson, Manager of our local TESCO branch for coming along to show his support and to Liz Hancock from RGU, who have provided so much support for the Community Garden over the last five years..

Thanks too to all the plotters, volunteers and friends who worked so hard on the day to make the event a success and to those who could not make it, but contributed raffle prizes and donations.

It was super to have so many friends from The MacMillan Cancer Charity join us.  The raffle brought in £146 and proceeds will be split equally between GFAA and MacMillan.

BBQ + Date for your Diaries

Plotters and our volunteers, along with their families and friends, are invited to our Opening Event and Late Summer Barbecue at the community orchard area of the Garthdee Field Allotments Site.

The opening ceremony with drinks will take place from 12.00-12.30 with the BBQ to follow immediately.

Please bring your preferred BBQ food and drink.

Entertainment will include a French Boules Competition, a Children’s Treasure Hunt, Live Music and (back by popular demand) Vinnie’s Trailer Tours.

There will be a Raffle with proceeds going to GFAA and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Donations for the raffle will be gratefully received by

Gill Earle (Plot 64), Stuart Oram (Plot 8) or Norman Coutts (Plot 81)

Please send any queries or offers of help on the day to Gill Earle – g.earl20@btinternet.com / 07951021319.  Offers to loan BBQs, gazebos, chairs or picnic tables would be especially helpful.

Identifying our trees

In support of the It’s Your Neighbourhood 2017 theme – Birds, Bees and Trees – we have begun to survey and identify the trees around our site.

Marion (Plot 88) has created a prototype of a label we could use to identify each tree for interested plotters and visitors.

However, we need your help.  Can we have suggestions please as to materials and finishes that might be used to weather-proof the labels?

Stunning!

Our wild flower area has been simply stunning for weeks now.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the hard work to get it re-established this year and especially Michael who kept faith with the original idea of a wild flower garden after the difficulties of our first efforts.

How lucky are we?

The site was looking great in the sunshine this afternoon after lots of hard work to get it ready for our upcoming IYN assessment.  The new Octagon was a real picture.

This cheeky chappie also seemed pleased to be on site and was clearly appreciative of Gordon Mitchell’s efforts on the bird feeding front.
